Rethinking the digital divide - the themes for the the 2008 ALT Conference, and the call for proposals
The paper submissions system for the 2008 Association for Learning Technology Conference opened on 14 December 2007, and will remain so until 29 February 2008. Meanwhile ALT has announced the 7 (well 8) dimensions of the conference. Proposals for inclusion should address up to 3 of these:
global or local;
institutional or individual;
pedagogy or technology;
access or exclusion;
open or proprietary;
private or public;
for the learner or by the learner;
or other aspects of the digital divide.

amazing website, very engaging. sent link to Phylise and Nicola for their interest. Emailed their HR dept to get contact name to discuss how they develop faculty. Based on assumption that if they are innovative with their students then maybe they have innovative faculty dev approach.

Blogging
Have linked this blog to my faculty website, so that it can form a sort of diary of the research process. Also to store information on the www when working from home as not using lotus notes there. Will also invite Phylise Banner Klein to input information on faculty development. It was she, through an invitation to a workshop at Skidmore College, that reminded me of the use of blogs. Also just recalled Phylise input on Delicious - www resources for sharing bookmarks/sites/references. Another tool I could use for this research project link is at http://del.icio.us/shoezi

Researching Faculty Development
Saw a really interesting article from "USDLA - Uniting Distance Learning, Education and Training Globally!" about "New" International Center for Distance Learning Research and Praxis. Did a search but no other information came up. So tried to leave a comment for them on their blog, but didn't seem 'to take' - the irritations of technology?
Will send them an email instead re Please send me further details of The International Center. Its purpose and focus is engaging. However, I searched Fischler School of Education and Human Services (FSEHS) and could not find any further info. Am particularly interested in how the activities contribute to setting the research agenda in relation to teacher training and higher education.
Thanks Dr. Linzi J Kemp (Center for Distance Learning, Empire State College).
